Frequently Asked Questions
Is CellarTroll free?
Yes. CellarTroll is free to download and use. All core features — cellar management, moments, scanning, statistics — are available without payment. An optional yearly subscription helps cover cloud AI costs.
Do I need an account?
No. CellarTroll works fully offline with local storage. An account is only needed for cloud sync (access your cellar on multiple devices) and social features (friends, sharing moments).
How does cloud sync work?
When you sign in with your email, your wines and moments are synced to our servers (Supabase, hosted in the EU). Changes on one device appear on all your devices. Sync happens automatically in the background, or you can trigger it manually from Settings.
How do I add friends?
Each user gets a unique friend code (like WINE-A3K9). Share your code with a friend — they enter it in the app to send a friend request. You can find your code in Settings > Your Profile, or in the Friends screen.
Who can see my moments?
You control this per moment. When adding a moment, choose: Private (only you), Friends (your accepted friends), or Public (everyone). The default is Private.
How do I delete my account?
Go to Settings > Cloud Sync > Delete Account. This permanently removes your profile, all synced wines, moments, photos, and friend connections from our servers. Local data on your device stays until you uninstall the app.
How does the AI wine analysis work?
CellarTroll uses Google Gemini to analyze wines. It can scan labels from photos, provide tasting profiles, food pairings, drinking windows, and regional information. This requires an internet connection — the AI runs in the cloud, not on your device.
Can I export my data?
Yes. Go to Settings > Export Cellar. You can export everything as a ZIP file (wines, moments, photos, tags, analyses) or share a formatted text list of your wines.
